Capita – flexible service to deliver tight clearance deadline

Providing a sustainable clearance service at short notice

Capita is a London-based international consulting, digital services and transformation business with a large team in Glasgow. As part of the wider programme of estate changes, Capita required the Glasgow office which housed 1500 staff to be cleared of all furniture and IT equipment due to the lease ending.

Crown Workplace was asked to provide a sustainable clearance service at short notice and quickly mobilised a team to respond to the request.

Reuse before recycling: local schools receive furniture and IT assets

Crown’s dedicated Project Manager ensured the efficiency of this clearance which was part of wider estate moves and changes within the company. A project plan was established, and the team was quickly deployed to the Glasgow site to begin work.

A team of four Crown fitters dismantled desking and tables over eight shifts, followed by a team of 10 who worked nine double shifts to fulfil the clearance within the schedule.

Once the clearance was complete, all redundant furniture was assessed for reuse/recycling.

A significant 264 tonnes of carbon savings was yielded by this project, with the following items reclaimed from the clearance:
1,502 x office chairs
1,502 x straight desks
1,502 x pedestals
500 x mid-Level cabinets
260 x meeting chairs
65 x medium meeting tables

Over 120 items were donated via Crown’s Giving Back Project through a partnership with Business to Schools, a positive news story for Capita’s responsible business policy. The following items were donated to local Glasgow schools:

77 x chairs
15 x tables
15 x cabinets
20 x monitors

Redundant furniture was recycled through local centres according to the waste hierarchy.

The Capita team was delighted by the quick turnaround of this office clearance and by the support provided by Crown’s Project Manager and the team. The donation to local schools and avoidance of waste from landfill was a fundamental part of the requirement and the client was very happy with the result.

The services we provided included:

  • Project planning from Crown’s Account Manager
  • Audit of assets for donation
  • IT decommission
  • Furniture dismantling and packing
  • Relocation of IT equipment, furniture and filing
  • Sustainable clearance
  • Charitable donation and recycling

“We didn’t hesitate to contact Crown for the office closure, we were asked to remove all furniture from all floors at the last minute from the client and Crown worked double shifts to meet the very tight timelines.  Thanks to Liam and his team for their help and support.”
