Giving Back Project – North London Community Hub

Reinforcing our long-standing relationship with City YMCA

As our final ‘Giving Back Project’ donation in 2020, we were delighted to strengthen our long-standing relationship with City YMCA by helping to furnish their new Tarling Road Community Hub in North London in time for Christmas.

City YMCA provide accommodation and arrange interventions for young people made homeless, with the aim of giving them a stronger start in life.

Creating an integral space for the local community

City YMCA approached Crown Workspace with a request for 43 items including tables, chairs and storage units. We were thrilled to provide all of these, valued at a total of over £4,000.

Their new hub is located in the heart of a challenged estate, and will be integral for the local community, where common spaces can be used, and small spaces hired out to raise funds for charity. While COVID-19 has dampened its start, a religious group and nursery provision have already made use of the building. Having acquired the empty building from the local authority, the charity needed help with furnishing the centre.

For over ten years, City YMCA has been a valued charity partner to Crown Workspace, where there has been continuous donation and fundraising initiatives.

Through our Giving Back Project, we aim to prolong the life of high-quality, unwanted office furniture from our clients by fulfilling its social value potential and City YMCA’s Tarling Road community hub has benefited from our donations.

The pre-loved items were all refurbished at our Renew Centre, and by facilitating the reuse of this furniture over buying new, 3.46 tonnes of CO2 (e) emissions were prevented.

“Crown Workspace’s continued support for City YMCA has really helped to create usable spaces, which are already being used by the residents. The quality of the donated items is really good as well. ”
