London-based gaming studio – ‘live’ server transfer

Expanding into larger technology and innovation premises

A London-based gaming studio wished to expand into larger premises, and sought to relocate from offices in Stratford to a technology and innovation campus situated in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London.

A ‘live’ relocation transfer was required in order to maintain online services throughout the move period, which was scheduled to take place once refurbishment works in the new offices were completed.

Careful packaging for a valuable collection of signed football shirts

Crown’s account manager made a site visit to put together a complete project proposal.

Existing furniture was to be relocated to the new space according to site plans and to complement new furniture acquired for the larger workspace. The London office movers team provided crates and book cartons for personal effects and transferred bulk filing packing and unpacking in the new premises. Desking was packaged, relocated and reassembled according to the floorplans which had been meticulously prepared by the project team to ensure a smooth service.

Specialist attention was required for a collection of 100 signed football shirts, which were carefully packaged and transferred by the Moves team.

Crown’s IT experts including the server team leader fulfilled the server relocation over a weekend using server flight cases, enabling the company to remain online throughout. Desktop monitors and poles were disconnected, relocated and reassembled with the monitors reconnected to power up the log on prompt.

Crown’s sustainable clearance strategies were put in place to vacate the exiting premises. For a small number of remaining items – consisting of tall cabinets and lockers – that were unsuitable for reuse in the new premises, Crown worked with trusted recycling partners to ensure a 90% recycling rate with the residual going to energy-from-waste.

The move was scheduled during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Crown account manager ensured adherence to social distancing recommendations to maintain staff and client safety. With the refurbishment deadline pushed back because of delays due to the pandemic, Crown was able to offer flexibility by adapting the scheduling to fit in with the completion date.

Providing flexibility for the client following delays on completion of the refurbishment caused by COVID, the relocation was delivered by Crown as requested, with a live transfer of servers which enabled the client to maintain ‘business as usual’ operations during the move. Crowns’ in-house services such as sustainable clearance meant that recycling was provided at no extra cost to the client.

The services provided included:

  • Project planning
  • Crate hire
  • Specialist wrapping of signed football shirts collection
  • IT decommissioning and recommissioning
  • Live server transfer
  • Office furniture relocation
  • Recycling of redundant items

“Crown Workspace has done an excellent job in completing the project without disrupting the business. It was a seamless process from start to finish.”
