Moving staff, equipment and furniture to new Hackney hostel
City YMCA wished to support more of London’s most at-risk young people by increasing the number of hostel bed spaces available. The new 87 bed hostel was a first for Hackney, and is to provide a home to 1,700 young people over the next 15 years.
Crown Workspace were ideal partners to move staff, equipment and furniture from their Long Lane hostel to the new hostel at Errol Street.
Creating a homely environment through furniture provision
We prepared a move plan in advance of the relocation, which included floor plans of the new hostel; crates were also provided in advance to enable staff to pack.
On the day of the move, IT equipment was wrapped and packed, whilst desks and furniture were dismantled and taken to Errol Street along with the crates. Desks were then assembled, and furniture was moved in according to the pre-prepared floor plan. Crates were delivered and placed ready for staff to unpack.
Donating refurbished chairs through the Giving Back Project
Through the Giving Back Project, we were able to donate 87 refurbished chairs to City YMCA. We also turned the lounge area into a more homely environment through sofas that were donated by a prior YMCA client. We also donated a bespoke custom-built desk for the reception area at the new hostel, which was built in the Renew Centre to meet the client’s needs.
We are proud to have delivered a successful relocation project, on time, within budget whilst also giving back to the local community.
Below are the main services that were provided by Crown Workspace:
- Move planning, working together with the City YMCA team
- Supply and labelling of crates
- Telephony and IT decommission and re-commission
- Provision of chairs, sofas and bespoke reception desk
“The number of young people in London made homeless has doubled in just two years. That’s why City YMCA are on a mission to support more of London’s most at-risk young people by increasing the numbers of bed spaces available.
Once-loved furniture, reused from Crown Workspace’s clients, will help give a hope and a future to young homeless people.”
