INTRODUCTION
A UK Government agency based in Newcastle required a sustainable clearance of its second-floor workspace at Tyneside House. The department planned to relocate staff to The Lumen and needed a responsible approach to removing furniture and IT assets. Their challenge centred on meeting strict environmental goals while ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations. Around 80 staff were affected by the move, and the organisation wanted a solution that aligned with its sustainability commitments. Crown Workspace was appointed to deliver a clearance that prioritised reuse, recycling, and donation through its circular economy model. The project needed to be completed efficiently, safely, and with full compliance to government standards.
PROJECT SOLUTION
Crown Workspace managed the full sustainable clearance and relocation process for the client. The team delivered 150 packing crates to support staff preparation and organised the relocation of crates and meeting room chairs to The Lumen. Remaining furniture and IT assets were cleared using circular economy principles. All items were dismantled, wrapped, and removed, including WEEE-compliant disposal of IT equipment. The team completed a final site clearance and provided photographic evidence for full transparency. Crates were collected after the relocation to close out the project.
Circular economy methods guided every stage. Assets were assessed using the LENS tool to determine their best future use. Items suitable for refurbishment were processed through the Renew Centre and Renew IT. Redundant assets were resold through Office Resale and IT Resale. Reusable items were redistributed internally or donated to community groups through the Giving Back Project. Remaining materials were responsibly recycled, including POPs‑compliant disposal. A detailed post-project report captured carbon savings and social impact.
PROJECT FEEDBACK
The project delivered strong environmental, social, and financial outcomes. A significant volume of assets was diverted from landfill, supporting compliance with POPs regulations and reducing carbon impact. Around 100 items were donated to UK schools and charities, creating meaningful community benefit. Resale values and rebates contributed to overall cost efficiency. The relocation and clearance were completed smoothly, with full client sign‑off and no operational disruption.
