Large-scale sustainable clearance for a global giant

Providing a successful clearance of a London office space

To meet a lease end date on a London office space, a global financial technology company and international media corporation required the clearance of all furniture, kitchen equipment after the staff had relocated into a new office space at 5 Canada Square.

Crown’s integrated sustainable clearance services were engaged to fulfil the project.

Drawing on a wealth of experience

Crown’s experienced Account Manager met with the client’s facilities team to create a tailored plan for this significant project, to accommodate the logistics and timeframe of the clearance to identify targets and expectations regarding financial and environmental outcomes. The high level of expertise from the Crown team meant that not only were the finer details noted and accommodated from the start, but the proactive approach allowed for flexibility during a rapidly changing situation due to the pandemic crisis.

The scheduled works were to be completed within a one-month window up to 30th March 2020 when the office would be handed back to the landlord. Due to the location of the premises, the Crown team were required to start all clearance works from 8pm on weekday evenings, and from 11pm on Friday evenings. The impact of Covid-19 towards the end of the project also meant that the Crown Move Manager had to adapt the plans to accommodate safe working conditions for the team.

In order to ensure the efficient operation of the clearance, Crown supplied a small team to remove any paperwork and waste from cabinets, pedestals and storage areas prior to the main clearance of each floor.

The total scale of the clearance included:

  • 2,641 desks
  • 2,536 pedestals
  • 2,191 office chairs
  • 236 meeting tables
  • 1,200 meeting chairs
  • 825 storage cabinets

A sustainable project – the financial and environmental benefits

Through Crown’s office resale programme, the total weight of furniture diverted into reuse totalled 24.5 tonnes. This generated a total of 148.53 tonnes of carbon equivalent savings from reuse. On top of this significant environmental achievement, Crown was also able to offer a furniture resale rebate on 2,427 items which provided a significant financial saving for the client.

As well as completing the clearance of each floor within the designated timeframes, the client was delighted that Crown was able to report that 0% of all items were sent to landfill. All recycling was separated into mixed and metal recycling, for which the clients also received a rebate.

The services provided included:

  • Tailored project plans by Crown’s Account Manager
  • Clearance of 2600 workstations
  • Reuse and resale of redundant furniture via Office Resale
  • Sustainable clearance and WEEE recycling

“The clearance of 30 South Colonnade was a very challenging task to clear all 10 floors in normal times, but Crown had the difficult of doing this whilst in a pandemic.

The effort the guys put into clearing this building was second-to-none. I will certainly be recommending Crown for any future works going forward.”
