Are you aware of your workers biggest headaches?

Long commutes and low wages are two main concerns causing workers the most stress according to a new study from Everest College.

Other stresses for workers revealed included: unreasonable workloads, annoying colleagues, poor work-life balance, a job that is not a chosen career, lack of opportunity for development, managers and fear of being fired or being made redundant.

Over 80% of all American’s surveyed also cited that they were stressed by at least one factor at work, this was down from 83% from the previous year (2014).

Wendy Cullen, Vice President of Employer Development for Everest College, said:

“I don’t think you can ever eliminate all the factors that cause workplace anxiety, but as individuals we can definitely create a plan of action to improve our  careers and change our lives.”

Work occupies a large portion of our lives, so keeping workplace stress in check is an absolute necessity in maintaining overall wellness,” Cullen said. “Having a stable, satisfying career with good pay and plenty of job security is paramount for  any worker, which is why education and training are more important than ever.”

The study also discovered that employee’s salary and education status played a significant part in determining the stressors. Low pay is a worry amongst those who have a household income of less than £33,000 and those with less than a  college education. Employees who earn more and have a minimum college education are most likely to name an unreasonable workload and poor work life balance as their main cause of stress.
