Business in the Community: Responsible Business Tracker
Business in the Community and the network’s Responsible Business Tracker are helping Crown Workspace take a progressive approach to responsible business and identify how we will achieve greater positive impact through our work.
Crown Workspace have been a member of Business in the Community (BITC), the Prince’s Responsible Business Network, for a number of years. BITC works with members to continually improve their responsible business practices, leveraging the collective impact for the benefit of communities. Our membership and role on their Circular Economy Taskforce has played a very important part in our developing sustainability strategy in recent years.
In 2021, we pulled together a cross-functional team to complete BITCs forward-thinking ‘Responsible Business Tracker’ to track our performance as a responsible business against their Responsible Business Map, built on the UN’s Global Goals or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Achieving above cohort average
Completing the Tracker involved a deep level review of all areas of responsible business from climate action to health and wellbeing, and from equality, diversity and inclusion through to nature stewardship. Our business activities were thoroughly reviewed and evidenced before being benchmarked against sector peers and the overall cohort.
We received a detailed report that outlined areas of best practice and those for improvement. We were delighted to have scored above cohort average in our overall performance, in relation to healthy business, healthy environment and healthy communities.
We were also particularly happy to be identified as a case for best practice in terms of our purpose, digital transformation, and our approach to the circular economy, not just for demonstrating how we have embraced circular economy principles but for how we are helping to shape the wider circular economy agenda.
Committed to continual improvement
Amongst other areas, we will be strengthening our approach to our supply chain, developing a deeper understanding of, and relationship with, our suppliers which dovetails into the work we are doing on Scope 3 emissions.
We have taken on board the structured guidance from The Responsible Business Tracker on how to improve on all areas of our business, in aspects from evaluation to disclosure.
Ann Beavis, Head of Sustainable Development says: “Crown recognise the importance of being a responsible business that benefits wider society. We have an established responsible business taskforce and are fully committed to continual improvement in this area. We are confident that we have a strong base from which to build our longer-term responsible business strategy and achieve greater positive impact through our work. We look forward to continuing to work closely with BITC on this.”
