Sustainably clearing unwanted furniture
Goodenough College decided to sustainably clear unwanted furniture in its 4* London hotel, The Goodenough on Mecklenburgh Square, with a particular emphasis on supporting local charities with quality used assets.
As an educational charity Goodenough College has been providing accommodation to postgraduate students from all over the world for over 90 years and the College was keen to deliver social benefit through this project.
Donating furniture through our Giving Back Project
Working with Crown Workspace’s ‘Giving Back Project’, which helps with the distribution of donated furniture, the College completed the initiative over five days in August 2021 giving North London YMCA and The Havering Community Hub over 100 much needed items of furniture and equipment.
YMCA is well known for supporting mostly young people with accommodation and life changing opportunities and the charity has long-standing links with Crown Workspace. North London YMCA was over the moon to receive this generous donation from Goodenough College.
The Havering Community Hub is a community centre giving local people in the borough access to advice, education and training, affordable food, and social activities. The Hub was new to Crown Workspace’s Giving Back Project, but the organisation now aims to offer the Hub continual support with its ongoing furniture and equipment needs.
By facilitating the reuse of these assets, around 3.5 tonnes has been diverted into reuse. Moreover, we estimate that over six tonnes of CO2e has been saved – enough to power a home for an entire year.
